The oral cavity is a dynamic microbial ecosystem in which saliva, diet, plaque biofilm, and host immunity interact to shape oral health. Contemporary oral biology increasingly emphasizes microbial homeostasis rather than indiscriminate sterilization, and saliva is recognized as central to buffering, cleansing, and remineralization. Traditional dentifrices prepared from herbal and mineral ingredients continue to attract interest, but their mechanisms and clinical utility require careful validation through compositional, microbiological, and clinical studies. This article examines the conceptual basis for cow-based dentifrices in relation to oral microbiome regulation and outlines a structured research agenda for future investigation.
